What is SkillMirror?
SkillMirror is a practice partner for dancers that analyses your movement entirely on your phone and tells you one honest, measured thing to work on next.
One fix, not a score
It compares your attempt with the reference joint by joint, and only speaks when a difference is larger than the measurement itself can defend. When nothing clears that bar, it says so.
Entirely on your phone
No account, no cloud, no upload in the practice loop. Your recordings and your history live on the device that made them, and the app has no upload path at all.
Free, with no adverts
Free. There are no payments, no subscriptions and no advertising. Built for movers everywhere.
How it works
How does practice work?
Three steps, on the real screens as built today. Watch, record, get one fix — then practise it again.
Watch the phrase.
A short phrase — the size a body can actually learn. Replay it as often as you like.
Record your attempt.
Your phone’s camera, propped up. Corner brackets show the frame the analysis needs; a countdown gives you time to step back.
Get one fix.
One correction, in degrees, on the joint that moved furthest from the reference — with the measurement’s own confidence stated. Then practise it again.
Walk through a whole session, screen by screen. Results shown are real engine output computed from a synthetic practice capture.
Private by design
Does my video get uploaded? No.
Analysis runs entirely on your phone, and your recordings and practice history live only there. There is no account, no cloud, and no upload in the practice loop — and that is enforced by automated checks in the codebase, not by a policy page.
The honest trade-off: your history will not survive deleting the app or losing the phone unless you export the encrypted backup the app can write for you. More on how private practice works.

Who is this being built for?
Every kind of mover, everywhere — practising alone, with a coach, or in a crew. Today the app teaches dance phrases; the scenes are illustrative pictures of where it is headed, each showing the real app interface exactly as built.

What does it tell me?
One measured thing to fix, in degrees, on the joint that moved furthest from the reference — with the measurement’s own confidence stated. There is no overall score, because no honest one exists for a body learning a phrase.
Which phones does it run on?
The Android build goes out first, as a closed test on Google Play that is being prepared now. An iPhone build exists and has not been submitted. Neither is in a public store yet; the browser studio is open today.
Do I need an account?
No. The app creates no account and asks for no email. The only thing it needs is permission to use the camera to record your practice.
Who is behind it?

Where it stands
Where can I get it?
SkillMirror is in development and is not yet available in the app stores. This site describes the product as it exists today on real hardware — measured, not promised. The browser studio is open now.
